I Woke
Up Today
by Shellah

I woke up today
and found I was smartly dressed
sitting at a desk
under bright white lights
with a large white screen before me.
Slightly dazed,
my gaze drifted to the window.
There, outside, sunshine was pouring down like love.
Green trees danced before an approving family of contented hills.
Out there.
Beyond.
I foreshortened
my view and a wall of towering glass came into focus.
A few feet nearer still
another partition of glass and crossbars.
Stylish but bars nonetheless.
Dimly I wondered
When had I allowed myself to be captured
And how long, really, have I been here?
