Waiting to Conceive

      Waiting…
           Hoping…

Trying not to hope
Trying to forget
Trying to go on
          As usual.

Yet wondering…
Wonderment.
What if…?
Oh! What if?!

Nothing to do but wait and see.

One more day.
Another to be sure.
Refuse to get excited until day three.

Then a quiet ache
in the wrong place.
         A drop of blood.
                    One drop.
                    But so unwelcome.

Chin up.
There’s time
To ease the deeper ache
                        Inside.
