| My friend,
Kathy, fought a long battle with cancer. At the time she had a teenage son
who was beginning to get into trouble with drugs and another son only four years old.
Her reasons to stay were great but ultimately she was forced to go. I wrote
this song because I knew without a doubt that she would be back among us.
My Good-byes
Words and music by
Shellah Garrett
I guess we saw it comin' from a million miles away.
Still I thought that things would somehow change and let me stay.
And when at last I had to go it took me by surprise
'Cause I had not finished sayin' my good-byes.
Chorus
My good-byes
To the ones I loved
My good-byes
To the ones that I had known
Good-bye
There was so much more to say
But I had not finished saying my good-byes.
We talked about my
leavin' though I did not want to go.
Then I tried not talkin', as if talkin' made it so.
I can't believe it now that I was so afraid to die
But I had not finished sayin' my good-byes.
Chorus
So much pain
But I'll take it one more day.
So much pain
But I'll take just one more day
If I can get it.
Then like a breath
it's over and I'm headed down the track.
Swear I'm gonna look ahead instead of lookin' back.
So if you see me in a dream or in a baby's eyes
Maybe I'm just sayin' my good-byes.
Chorus
